In her photographic work, Carla van de Puttelaar wants to emphasize personality, vulnerability and intimate eroticism, as well as distance and, sometimes, alienation.

1° Which was your initial formation?
[Carla van de Puttelaar] I attended the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. This is the Art Academy in Amsterdam. I also went to the Rijksacademie for a 3 month work period when I was nominated for the Prix de Rome.
2°What apprehended photography? Why to have chosen this one to express your feelings?
[Carla van de Puttelaar] Photographie is the ultimate way to express what I like. I can just catch the right moment and use the focus of the camera to decide on what I want to highlight.
3° You work primarily with enigmatic, sensual catches of sight. Why? Have you to it feeling which your color translates what you want to show?
[Carla van de Puttelaar] I want to show the beauty of women. The color and light are very important to me. They enhance the delicacy and intimacy of the photo.
4° Your characters are very erotic and poetric. What is what influenced you?
[Carla van de Puttelaar] I am mostly influenced by Dutch and Flemish painting, like Vermeer and Van Eyck, but also by artists like Munch and Utamaro.
5° How work your subjects? How are the settings in scene carried out?
[Carla van de Puttelaar] I do not have a specific plan. I need the right light and the right model to photograph and then look what would be interesting and beautiful to catch in a photo.
6° Work on the skin, the texture of the body are essential in your work. Why? How choose you to it framing, the light?
[Carla van de Puttelaar] I am very much fascinated by the skin. The skin shows a lot about ourselves. Some marks like scars will remain visible in the skin and others like goose flesh will only be there for a few moments. The skin is a landscape of time. I am very specific about the composition, everything must be right. I am always seaching for perfection.
7° You were exposed in France with the MEP. Which projects currently have in France? And abroad?
[Carla van de Puttelaar] I just had a group exhibtion at the gallery of my French gallerist Esther Woerdehoff in Paris. And now I have an exhibition in Belgium in Stavelot and in the Netherlands. I have also been represented at several fairs like: Artparis, Paris Photo, Art Cologne, Dfoto, Art Brussels and Photo London.
